What a busy weekend! Saturday hosted a A.M.F.C match at Chew Valley. Practice days proved productive with numerous reports of good numbers of fish scattered around the lakes. Many anglers commenting they had caught several fish over 4lb during the day.
A real mix of methods with anglers fishing both nymphs and buzzers on floating lines or midge tips and others catching well on di5 and di7's with a selection of F.A.B's and boobies.
It was interesting to see boats venture over to Stratford on competition day although many also favored Herons Green and Walley bank drifts. A couple boats stopped no further than a few yards away from the jetty when the klaxon went and were into fish almost immediately drifting down Woodford bank.
Conditions were far from ideal with bright sun for the best part of the day and a rather strong cold easterly wind. Nevertheless, results were excellent with the rod average going 5.7 fish per angler at the end of the day. The average weight consisted to stay high with several 4lb+ fish hitting the scales, murmurs of bigger fish released were common at weigh in in time...typical!
Overall an excellent competition and congratulations must go to Soldier Palmers 'A' for winning group 1, GWFFA Team 'A' for winning group 2 and RNRMAA for winning group 3. A special mention to Mr G Pearson who, with time bonus, managed the best bag of the day at 26lb 2oz
